"SPARTACUS" - Soviet color wide-screen ballet film produced by the Mosfilm film studio, adaptation of the Bolshoi Theater performance of the same name to the music of Aram Khachaturian (1968). Staged in 1975 by Vadim Derbenev in collaboration with choreographer Yuri Grigorovich. First released in January 1977.

The poster was released by SOVEXPORTFILM USSR - Soviet government agency created in 1945 that distributes Soviet films abroad. This company also had a monopoly on the import of foreign films into the Soviet Union. The ballet is based on the plot of the historical novel Spartacus by Raffaello Giovagnoli, which tells about the events in Ancient Rome in the 1st century BC. The gladiator Spartacus leads a slave uprising, which is brutally suppressed by the Roman commander and statesman Marcus Licinius Crassus. Against the background of the uprising, the love story of Spartacus and his wife Phrygia develops, which is opposed by the love affair of Crassus and the courtesan Aegina.
